James D. Freeman, CPA (NC Certificate # 25748), Shareholder/Partner
James is a native of the Fayetteville area and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. James graduated from UNCP in 1992 with a Bachelors of Science majoring in business administration with a concentration in accounting. After graduation he went to work for North Carolina National Gas as an internal auditor. He left NCNG in 1996 to enter the world of public accounting. He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners in 1998. James is currently a member of the North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is a member of Live Oak United Methodist Church where he serves as chairman of the finance committee and building fund treasurer. He also serves as treasurer for the Bladen Charge of the United Methodist Church. James resides in Fayetteville. He is the proud father of three sons.

Brian M. Barrett, CPA (NC Certificate # 27602), Shareholder/Partner
Brian moved to the Sandhills area from Erie Pennsylvania in 1996. He graduated from Gannon University in Erie, PA in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science majoring in accounting. After graduation he spent two years working in public accounting for Robert C. Barrett, CPA before accepting a position as controller for a investment company in Cary, NC. Brian returned to public accounting in 1999 for a local Fayetteville firm. It was there where he met James Freeman and on July 2, 2001 he and James formed Freeman & Barrett, CPAs, PA. He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners in 2000. Brian is currently a member of the North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) the Moore County Chamber of Commerece's Member to Member group (M2M), board member for Sandhills Community College's Entrepreneurship Certificate Program and a board member for the Athletic Club of the Sandhills (ACS). Brian also teaches an income tax course at Sandhills Community College during the fall semester. Brian resides in Southern Pines with his wife and two children. He is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish.

Steven D. Johnson, CPA (NC Certificate # 23930), Shareholder/Partner
Steve is a native of Fayetteville, NC and a graduate of North Carolina State University at Raleigh. Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. After graduating Steve went to work as a Certified Public Accountant primarily auditing business and not-for-profit entities. Steve worked closely with various venture capital and technology startups in the Research Triangle Park area and is currently a member of the North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA). Steve began work with Freeman & Barrett, CPAs, PA on August 1st, 2007 and was admitted as partner on July 1st, 2008 to Freeman Barrett & Johnson CPAs PA.
